About Us

The Vancouver Short Film Festival put on its first successful festival in 2009 at the VIFF Vancity Theatre and since the organization’s inception in 2005, has shown over 200 short films. The 10th Vancouver Short Film Festival will be held in January 2020 and we are looking for committed volunteer staff members to add to our stellar team. We are dedicated to working hard to showcase the best shorts in BC, we love watching movies, and most importantly, we like to have fun.

Publicity Coordinator

Duration: June 2019 – February 2020

Time commitment is expected to range between 2-5 hours per week and increase leading up to the festival.

Duties:

  • Liaising with the Festival Directors for guidance and attending staff meetings as required

  • Liaising with the Community Partnerships Coordinator for updates on newsletter content

  • Preparing and sending the monthly newsletter

  • Drafting and sending press releases for media outreach

  • Arranging interviews

  • Maintaining media list and good relationships with media contacts

  • Arranging media sponsorship

  • Acting as a point of contact for members of the media attending the festival

  • Attending networking events or other film festivals, if desired

  • Contributing to the official Marketing Report following the festival (which can be used for your own portfolio).

  • Assisting the Marketing team with tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

You...

  • Are passionate about the film industry and attend movies or arts events on a regular basis.

  • Are organized, have great written communication skills, and love to connect with others.

  • Are a fast learner and are great working both alone and with a team.

  • Have connections to networks such as bloggers and journalists.

  • Are graduating or have recently graduated with a Marketing, Arts or equivalent degree.

  • Have access to the Internet and Microsoft Word.
